Small, spicy, and beautiful to look at. That is how we would describe what we think at the moment is the best small Italian sports car – the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. This is a car that falls into the same category as a Porsche and Lotus – it is a car that is intended to be a purist driver’s car. Unfortunately you can not get the 4C with a manual transmission, but the six speed TCT Dual Dry Clutch Transmission does its job quite well.
First thing you will notice is of course the looks, and mamma mia the 4C has all the lines in the right place. Making a small car look excellent is not the easiest task but Alfa Romeo did such an amazing job with this one. “Most Beautiful Car of the Year 2013” is just one of the many awards it has won. Add to that list “Performance Car of the Year 2015”, “Best Sports Car 2013”, and many more. Do we need to convince you even more that this is a great small and light sports car to experience? We try.
When you start up the Alfa Romeo 4C you will be surprised how much noise a small thing can make. Already before you have driven the first metres you know you are in for a treat, because the 4C is not a quiet car. The car has a four cylinder 1.75L turbocharged engine with 240 horsepower, and a 0-100 km/h sprint takes only 4.5 seconds. Top speed is up to 258 km/h. The old-school unassisted steering can sometimes give you a good workout, especially when you want to turn the car in small spaces at low speeds, but once you reach higher speeds on country roads you will learn to love it.
The Alfa Romeo 4C is one of the best budget options you have for touring around Italy in an Italian car. It costs only a fraction of what you would pay for a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but you can have a lot of fun driving one. Also a smaller car means a little less stress, as moving around in tight places is more convenient than with a big supercar. Because our model is the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider you also have the pleasure of driving with the top open. What more could you ask for on a sunny day in Tuscany?
