The BMW i8 is a very interesting car to experience. It looks like a spaceship, much because of its butterfly doors, and when you drive it you can nothing else but find the technology fascinating. It is daily driveable in every way and thanks to its all-wheel drive it also is a magnificent car to take on snow. Fun to drive, but not once compromising safety. Just like a BMW should be.
The i8 has two engines. The 1.5L I3 turbo has 228 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, and a maximum torque of 320 Nm at 3,700 rpm. The hybrid synchronous motor has 129 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Combined this creates a hybrid vehicle with a total of 357 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque. The BMW i8 has a fuel efficiency of 2.1 L/100 km, but with gasoline engine only it is 8.4L per 100 km.
The best way to enjoy the BMW i8 is to embrace both worlds. When you find a good driving road and want to enjoy the car, switch to Sport mode. But in towns or in city you can roll in electric mode only, and have an all-electric range up to 37 km. In comfort mode the total range is 500 km and in Eco Pro mode 600 km, but in all honesty, you are not going to drive in Eco Pro mode for very long. Because the sports car performance is available behind the push of a button, and if SPORT mode is there, why not also enjoy it?
