The Jaguar E-Type is a sports car by British Jaguar Cars, that was in production between 1961 and 1975. This model was in first place in The Daily Mail’s “100 most beautiful cars” of all time” list in 2011. When the car was launched, Enzo Ferrari called it “The most beautiful car ever made”. And we can only agree. The Jaguar E-Type has one of the most beautiful designs in the classic car world, a car that never goes out of style. It looks expensive, it looks exclusive, and it looks like a sports car icon – which it is. The Jaguar E-Type is based on Jaguar’s race car Type D, a car that won the world’s most prestigious sports-car race three years in a row. For that reason the E-Type is also the first production vehicle that does not use a separate body bolted onto the chassis. Instead the car has a racing design where the engine is bolted directly to the framework, and the body tub is attached to the tubular framework.
Between 1961 and 1975 Jaguar made 3 series of the E-Type. Series 1 from 1961 to 1968, Series 2 from 1968 to 1971, and the final Series 3 from 1971 to 1975. Those Series 1 cars are the most valuable on the market. What you will drive is a Series 2 Roadster, finished in the stunning “Gunmetal Grey” colour with a “Cherry Red” interior, or a Series 2 Roadster in bright red with tan interior. We can also offer a Series 3 Jaguar E-Type Roadster in British racing green, with tan interior.
The Jaguar E-Type is an easy and reliable car to live with, a classic car that works as good on highways as it does on mountain roads. The 4.2L straight-six engine in Series 2 cars is capable of a lot more than you might expect out of a car that is already more than 35 years old. About 260 horsepower in a less than 1,300 kg 2-door roadster takes this car up to a top speed of about 220 km/h. The gearbox in Series 2 cars is an all-synchromesh 4-speed manual (stick shift), but the Series 3 Roadster has automatic transmission. To the Series 3 E-Type Jaguar also fitted a 5.3L Jaguar V12 engine, originally developed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
We highly recommend taking out this Jaguar E-Type Roadster on a tour, because it is one of those classic cars that really is a pleasure to experience. The luggage space is also good for a car this size, so you are good to go and spend a few days touring around in an iconic Jaguar E-Type, enjoying some of the best roads and sceneries in South of France.
The cars are available for our driving tours with start in France. Note that the overall tour distance will be a little shorter with the classic cars, as the journey in a classic car is different compared to driving a modern supercar. All hotels are the same and the best scenic roads are still included in your itinerary. If you wish to drive a Jaguar E-Type Roadster on one of our other driving tours, contact us for a price quote.
