The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster was unveiled in 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show. It is the convertible version of the SLS AMG Coupé, and the gull-wing doors had to be replaced with conventional doors to operate a three-layered fabric soft top, but the power remained the same.
An identical 6.2L V8 sits under the long hood, producing 563 horsepower and 479lb ft of torque, and the SLS AMG Roadster accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Despite being 40 kg heavier than the coupe model, and losing the aluminium roof, the SLS AMG Roadster has in reviews been praised for both offering a better ride and better handling than the coupe model.
Dropping that roof comes with other advantages as well, and one of the most important ones is that it brings the sound closer. Turn off the radio and enjoy the V8 symphony that will fill the cabin.
