The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the last pure supercar from Mercedes-Benz. Recognized for its gull-wing doors, as seen in the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL also, the SLS AMG is a car any Mercedes-Benz fan should experience. It is a large car and not the best choice for all types of tight roads. But when you find a wide serpentine road, you will enjoy it.
The 6.3L V8 that sits under the long nose has a power output of 563 horsepower at 6800 rpm, and maximum torque is 650 Nm at 4750 rpm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 3.7 seconds and top speed for the SLS AMG is 317 km/h. There are several driving modes to choose from – “C” Controlled Efficiency, “S” Sport, “S+” Sport Plus, and “M” for manual.
While Mercedes-Benz has stated “There won’t be an immediate successor to the SLS AMG” we do not know what the future holds for us. But there will never again be a 6.3 liter naturally aspirated M159 engine from AMG, in a world where car manufacturers need to improve efficiency of their new cars. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is already an icon, and a car that people will look back at in future and think “what a supercar that was”. Although you can enjoy a Roadster version as well, there is something really special about the feeling when you open those gull-wing doors. One of the most beautiful door designs ever? It certainly is!
