We love manual transmission sports cars. There is something sensational about driving a brutal supercar, something that feels so exciting that it will take your breath away for a few seconds when you floor the gas pedal. We can not argue that. But we also think you do not always need all that power to enjoy the greatest driving roads. There is a demand from people – or shall we call them purists – who want their driving experience to involve three pedals. That is why we are excited to offer one of the most desirable manual transmission sports cars we can think of – the Porsche Cayman GT4.
This limited production Cayman model was introduced in 2015, and it is a track-focused model only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. 385 horsepower from a 3.8L mid-mounted boxer engine, a slightly de-tuned version of the 911 (991) Carrera S engine mounted into a Cayman body, is of course less than what you find in supercars. But trust us when we say that on mountain roads power is not everything. To enjoy them in a small nimble sports car, and have the pleasure of shifting through all those gears manually, is an experience itself. The weight of the car is 1340 kg and a 0-100 km/h sprint takes 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 295 km/h and around Nürburgring it set a lap time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds.
Porsche has now replaced the previous naturally aspirated 981 Cayman engines with turbocharged in the new 718 Caymans. The Porsche Cayman GT4 is definitely a future classic, a desirable collector’s car, and a car that we think every Porsche enthusiast should experience.
