The French Alps & Gran Paradiso five day driving tour includes two regions of Europe we love to drive in. The French Alps, with passes that are well-known from the famous “Routes des Grandes Alpes” route, and Italian Gran Paradiso National Park that is the location for several iconic scenes in the movie “The Italian Job”.

When designing this tour we wanted to create a driving experience that shows you how diverse the landscapes can be in the Alps. The first drive from Switzerland to Italy goes over Great St Bernard Pass, the road used in the opening scene of “The Italian Job” with the Miura. In Italy we have prepared for you one of the most breathtaking views and challenging drives you can experience in the Alps – the road Colle del Nivolet. Colle del Nivolet was also used as a location for several scenes in “The Italian Job”, including the final bus crash. From there you will continue to a hotel in Turin that is located in the old FIAT factory, where you can visit the rooftop test track. The border crossing between Italy and France is made on the scenic Col du Mont Cenis, with astonishing views over lakes and dams. Finally you will also experience Col de l’Iseran, that is the highest paved mountain pass in Europe at 2770m.

With a great mix of open wide roads where you can enjoy the car to the fullest, as well as more challenging narrow mountain roads that will make you hold your breath a few times, we believe we have an unforgettable route designed. This tour is not designed with sightseeing in mind – this was designed for pure driving pleasure. We wanted you to experience as many of our favourite roads as possible over the course of a few days, and if you like us enjoy thrilling mountain roads, this tour will not disappoint you!

French Alps & Gran Paradiso - Day 2Your car will be delivered to the hotel in the morning and we will do a short car and tour briefing before you start the first drive. This will take you from Geneva to the Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps, crossing the border from Switzerland to France over the beautiful Great St Bernard Pass 2469m. When in France you will continue to Saint-Vincent where you will check in to the five star resort Grand Hotel Billia, an old historic Belle Epoque building dating back to 1908, with a 1800 square meter spa area. In Saint-Vincent you can also visit Casino de la Vallée.

Hotel: 5* Grand Hotel Billia, Saint-Vincent – 35 m² mountain view deluxe room with breakfast
Distance: 250 km / 3 hours without stops

French Alps & Gran Paradiso - Day 3After breakfast you will drive south to the direction of Gran Paradiso National Park. This is the location where the famous bus scene in the movie “The Italian Job” was filmed. The road is called Colle del Nivolet and it offers some of the most stunning sceneries in the whole Europe. It is a challenging driving road with tight sections and several blind corners, but when you see the panoramic views from the road you can nothing else but enjoy it.

No better way to continue an “Italian Job” day than checking in to the hotel NH Torino Lingotto Congress outside Turin centre, which is built in the old FIAT factory building. There you will also find a rooftop jogging track that once was the official test drive track for FIAT – and also the location where the MINI race was done in the movie.

Hotel: 4* NH Torino Lingotto Congress, Turin – 44 m² superior room with breakfast
Distance: 250 km / 4½ hours without stops

French Alps & Gran Paradiso - Day 4Today you will drive from Italy back to Switzerland via France. Drive over the scenic Mont Cenis pass before making a turn north for Col de l’Iseran. At 2770 metres Col de l’Iseran is the highest paved pass in the Alps, and when you reach the top of the road you will see a bare landscape that could almost be from another planet. After this pass you will drive directly back to Geneva for one last night.

The last day there is a longer (330 km / approx. 5½ hours without stops) drive back to Geneva, so we recommend an early departure from Torino. Earlybird breakfast is served already from 5:00 AM at Hotel NH Torino Lingotto Congress, and the normal breakfast starts 7:00 AM.
