Rent a BMW M2 in Europe with Colcorsa, and experience this nimble sports car on an exciting road trip adventure, relaxing in beautiful luxury hotels between thrilling drives. The BMW M2 has since its initial release in 2016 had a reputation of being a bit of a 'pocket rocket' - not too big, great handling, and plenty of power for its size.
In terms of looks the F87 M2 was a great looking machine, however the new G87 - first shown to the public in late 2022 - is likely to divide opinions more than its predecessor with its boxy muscle-car like design, new front grille, headlights and a completely redesigned rear. However BMW is one of the manufacturers that actually do release new models where the first impression might be 'what have they done', and a few years later the design - even the controversial new grille design that went viral - have grown on you and it suddenly looks alright. An optional M Performance quad exhaust - mounted in the center - is available as an option as well for those who want to stand out a bit more.
The new BMW M2 is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo straight-six engine - which it shares with the M3 and M4 although the engine is slightly detuned for the M2 - producing 453 horsepower and 550 Nm of maximum torque. The car is only available as rear-wheel drive and with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed torque-converter automatic - our rental cars are all automatic. The previous generation's dual-clutch transmission has unfortunately been dropped in the G87 BMW M2, and the new automatic gearbox doesn't feel quite as responsive as its predecessor, however the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are there so you can enjoy more sporty driving. With the manual you can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.3 seconds, and with the automatic it's reduced down to 4.1 seconds. As with all new M cars - except the special top of the range models - the top speed is limited to 250 km/h, although it can be increased to 285 km/h by ticking the box for the M Driver's package option.
The new BMW M2 is heavier than its predecessor - and now nearly as heavy as the BMW M4 - however the verdict is that it's still a fun sports car for those twisty roads, with precise handling and great grip. There is a bit of turbo lag, the automatic gearbox isn't BMW's greatest, and the looks are a bit disappointing - however, the second-generation BMW M2 will be BMW's last non-electrified M model, and also the last to be offered with a manual gearbox. It certainly is an end of an era.
On a Colcorsa luxury driving tour you can experience this funky sports car on a road trip adventure in Europe - for tight hairpin bends in the Alps it is definitely a fun alternative for the drivers who would prefer a BMW M over a Porsche 911. And it offers significantly more space as well compared to a 911, with its 390L boot and the foldable rear seats - making it a very practical car also for longer journeys.
The open road awaits...
