Ferrari 296 GTS

Like the 296 GTB the 296 GTS is also powered by a 120° 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, and in addition to the combustion engine there is a plug-in electric motor. Combine the power of these two and the power output is an impressive 818 horsepower in fully hybrid mode (that is 654 horsepower from the V6 and 165 horsepower from the electric engine), plus 740 Nm of torque. Performance figures are identical to the 296 GTB - the GTS can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds and the top speed is in excess of 330 km/h, even with the roof down.

As one would except converting a coupe into a 2-seater Berlinetta layout did result in some weight gain - but not much. Whilst the 296 GTB weighs 1470 kg the 296 GTS is 1540 kg - that is only 70 kg more in a car that comes with a retractable hardtop roof. Ferrari designed the targa-like roof to split into two sections, then fold over the front of the engine behind the seats (leaving a height-adjustable glass screen between the passenger and the engine bay) - and all that in 14 seconds. Carbon fibre reinforcement has been added to the underbody, and all over the car are strengthened joints - and the final result is a car that Ferrari themselves claim is 50% stiffer than the Ferrari F8 Spider.

You have four different drive modes - eDrive (electric mode only - the range is 25 kilometers), Hybrid (the default mode), Performance (for more performance), and Qualify (for the ultimate performance). Ferrari has made the bold statement that the V6 in the 296 GTB is like "a little V12" mainly due to its its 120-degree layout and 8,500 rpm redline, making it sound like there are more than six cylinders. V12 purists might disagree, however the fact is that despite its hybrid setup the Ferrari 296 still produces a thrilling soundtrack.
