Rent a Ferrari F12tdf in Europe, and experience a legendary V12 masterpiece from Ferrari's lineup. The Ferrari F12Berlinetta was the predecessor to the Ferrari 812 superfast, and the F12tdf - with tdf standing for 'Tour de France' paying homage to the Tour de France automobile race which was regularly won by Ferrari in the 50s and 60s - took the car to a whole new level as being a more track-focused version. The F12tdf is also a limited edition model with only 799 cars in existence worldwide.
The engine is the same as in the F12Berlinetta - a naturally aspirated 6.3L V12 producing 769 hp at 8,500 rpm, and 705 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. The F12tdf is however 110kg lighter thanks to the use of carbon fibre, and the car's aerodynamic efficiency figure is 1.6, which is almost double that of the F12Berlinetta. This power output results in some remarkable performance figures for a car from that era - the Ferrari F12tdf will accelerate 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, and according to Ferrari the top speed is more than 340 km/h.
The F12 was designed to be a V12 grand tourer - a car with a higher level of comfort and even some space for luggage for those longer trips. The F12tdf is a race car for the road - with a much more brutal feel to it compared to its more mellow sibling - however you still have 320L of space in the boot which is plenty in supercar standards.
Compared to the F12Berlinetta the F12tdf has six per cent shorter gear ratios and the gearbox shifts even faster โ 30 per cent quicker on upshifts and 40 per cent on downshifts. The F12tdf was also the first car Ferrari fitted with a four-wheel-steering system (Virtual Short Wheelbase) designed to sharpen low speed turn-in - basically a system to stabilise the car better. On the steering wheel is a manettino dial with five other settings - F1-Trac, E-diff, F1-DC, ESC and SCM. And whilst Ferrari says lots of systems are in place to improve safety don't be fooled by what the paper says - the Ferrari F12tdf is a beast even with every driver aid system turned on, and not a car that should be one's introduction into the world of supercars. However for those who already know what they are doing - it can be a wonderful, incredibly exciting driving experience.
And the V12 soundtrack? Well, too fabulous to be described in words - we'll let you find out for yourself...
