The McLaren 765LT Spider is powered by the same 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that the McLaren 765LT Coupe has - and just like its sibling the open-top version is also producing 755 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Compared to its predecessor, the 720S, the 765LT was designed to be a more track-focused version with more downforce, improved throttle response, upgraded suspension for the track... Additionally McLaren has opted for a lot of weight saving exercises - the use of carbon fiber in particular - and given buyers a choice of speccing the car to their personal taste (things such as air conditioning and radio are optional tick boxes rather than standard options).

The McLaren 765LT Spider weighs 80 kg less than the McLaren 720S Spider at 1,388 kg, however it is 49 kg heavier than the fixed-roof 765LT Coupe. Most of this added weight will be due to the roof mechanism - the retractable hard top can be raised or lowered in 11 seconds, and can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Performance wise this splendid machine won't disappoint - the acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h takes just 2.8 seconds, and the top speed is 330 km/h. Practicality was never a priority when building this car - it has the same 150L front boot as the coupe, however the 210L rear shelf behind the seats has been dropped in the convertible to make room for the roof.
