The Porsche 718 Spyder RS shares its engine with cars such as the Cayman GT4 RS, and performance wise they are on the same level, with only the top speed being slightly lower in the open top Spyder (308 km/h instead of 315 km/h). The 4.0L flat-six is of course naturally aspirated and boasts an amazing soundtrack once you push the revs close to the 9,000 rpm redline. With 493 hp and 450 Nm of torque you can certainly keep up with the supercars - the Spyder RS will sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds which is a remarkable number for a sports car.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS would perhaps be more considered to be a track weapon - although it is immensely fun also on open roads and twisty mountain passes. But when you remove the roof and it's all about open-air driving the purpose of the car immediately changes a bit. The Spyder essentially is a mid-engine roadster that was designed with an equal amount of driving pleasure in mind - however perhaps less so on track, and more on the open roads where keeping that roof stowed away makes you appreciate the breathtaking scenery even more.
The design of the Spyder differs a bit from Porsche's normal convertibles - the soft-top roof is manually operated, and looks more like a stuck on piece of fabric than a proper roof. However, with the gorgeous lines of the Spyder the last thing you want to do is to drive it with the roof up, so this is a minor issue. Until it starts raining, of course... Manual roofs aren't the quickest to deal with, as those who own classic convertibles might already know the feeling when something you want to do in 20 seconds takes minutes, however it can be successfully done by one person - even if an extra pair of hands comes in handy here. The roof panel goes in the rear boot, but does not take up a huge amount of space - you will still be able to fit some luggage in the back, and of course also have the whole of the front boot at your disposal.
